Narada Michael Walden - Confidence (1982) - €10,00

Confidence is the sixth full-length studio recording from singer/songwriter/drummer/producer Narada Michael Walden.
It was his first album wherein he co-wrote every single song with other people.

Narada Michael Walden's 1982 date 'Confidance' is among them.It did okay on the R&B side of things but is barely acknowledged in the pop world-his pop productions during this time for Stacy Lattisaw and later Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin are.
This album begins with the hefty funk jam "Your #1"-one of the best slices of funk Narada ever threw down!"Summer Lady" has yet more of that heavy 80's funk throb to it before again returning to the breezy and inspiring urban soul sound of "I'm Ready".
The title track goes to the same place with great verve and style! The presense of jazz and fusion icons Randy Brecker,David Sanborn and the immortal Wayne Shorter really showcase Narada as the successor to Norman Connors;drummer and great assembler of talent.
Another truely impressive track to be found here is the the closer "Blue Side Of Midnight",a moody romantic smooth groove with some creamy sax from Sanborn and a great otherworldy guitar solo from Corrado Rustici! 'Confidance' is absolutely no misnomer;Narada delivers everything here with sincerity, conviction and so many hard-driving grooves to make you bug!

Jimmy Cliff - Special (1982) - €10,00

posted by albumsonvinyl

James Chambers OM (born 1 April 1948, known professionally as Jimmy Cliff, is a Jamaican ska and reggae musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and actor.
Along with Bunny Wailer he is one of only two living musicians to hold the Order of Merit, the highest honour that can be granted by the Jamaican government for achievements in the arts and sciences.

Reggae singer Jimmy Cliff was one of the first performers to take the music beyond his native Jamaica.
Another fantastic breezy, joyful light reggae offering from Jimmy Cliff, bringing you the essence of Jamaica, in all its forms.
His voice is higher and sweeter-sounding than Bob Marley's, yet like Marley, Cliff has that fervent, declarative style, righteous but never overbearing. SPECIAL is from 1982, and is a fine sampling of Cliff's brand of easy-going, pop-tinged reggae.
"Treat the Youths Right" and "Roots Radical" are both groove-oriented and topical--the former is a plea for understanding for young people, the latter a declaration of pride in Jamaican roots and culture.
"Keep on Dancing" and "Rub-a-Dub Partner" are bright, summery exhortations to good times and romance.
This is not an album for those seeking the darkly intense "culture" style of reggae--for that, check out Burning Spear and Lee "Scratch" Perry. Cliff takes the reggae form and adds a chorus of soothing yet soulful chorus, flute, fuzzy guitars and electronic keyboards, making for a fine album for those who prefer their reggae light, bouncy, and instantly catchy.

David Bowie - Lodger (1979) - €10,00

posted by albumsonvinyl

Lodger is the 13th studio album by English singer-songwriter David Bowie.
It was originally released in May 1979 by RCA Records.
The third and final release of the Berlin Trilogy, following Low and "Heroes" (both 1977), it was recorded in Switzerland and New York City with collaborator Brian Eno and producer Tony Visconti.
Unlike Bowie's previous two albums, Lodger contained no instrumentals and a somewhat more pop-oriented style while experimenting with elements of world music and recording techniques inspired by Eno's Oblique Strategies cards.

The album was not, by Bowie's standards, a major commercial success.
Indifferently received by critics on its initial release, it is now widely considered to be among Bowie's most underrated albums. It was accompanied by several singles, including the UK Top 10 hit "Boys Keep Swinging".

On the surface, Lodger is the most accessible of the three Berlin-era records David Bowie made with Brian Eno, simply because there are no instrumentals and there are a handful of concise pop songs. Nevertheless, Lodger is still gnarled and twisted avant pop; what makes it different is how it incorporates such experimental tendencies into genuine songs, something that Low and Heroes purposely avoided. "D.J.," "Look Back in Anger," and "Boys Keep Swinging" have strong melodic hooks that are subverted and strengthened by the layered, dissonant productions, while the remainder of the record is divided between similarly effective avant pop and ambient instrumentals.
Lodger has an edgier, more minimalistic bent than its two predecessors, which makes it more accessible for rock fans, as well as giving it a more immediate, emotional impact. It might not stretch the boundaries of rock like Low and Heroes, but it arguably utilizes those ideas in a more effective fashion

It is one of Bowie's most influential works, particularly to the 1990s Britpop movement, with two major Britpop bands, Oasis, who named their 1996 number-one hit "Don't Look Back in Anger" after Lodger's "Look Back in Anger" and Blur, who used the same chord sequence as "Fantastic Voyage" and "Boys Keep Swinging" in their 1997 hit single "M.O.R.".
