Out of This World, released in 1983 on the Polydor label, is the fourth album by English jazz-funk band Shakatak.
If you like smooth, jazz pop with a little funk thrown in for good measure, look no further. This will satisfy all of your cravings.
This remains one of the essential Shakatak albums. The band have always leaned towards the jazz side of the "jazz-funk" category many have put them in, which has doubtless been a factor in their enduring success, particularly in overseas markets such as Japan.
Those who enjoy what we now call "smooth jazz" should like this music - sophisticated and adult but still with vitality and the pop sensibilities which made it a hit back in the early 1980's.
The styles vary from sophisticated disco funk ("Dark Is the Night", "Slip Away", "Out of This World", "If You Could See Me Now") to a little more lively edition ("On Nights Like Tonight", "Let's Get Together"), entertaining instrumental samba ("Don't Say That Again") and even quite pure jazz.
