Pleasure - Give It Up (Lp) (1982) - €10,00

posted by ad-vinylrecords

Pleasure was a risk-taking, horn-driven band that often brought jazz overtones to its funk/soul foundation.
Pleasure, wasn’t huge but enjoyed a small cult following. The band was formed in Portland, OR, in 1972.

This is the final album from Pleasure which was released in 1982 on RCA Records.
The hit was “Sending My Love” and sounded a LOT like a Silverspoon Production in so far as that it had that Solar Records sound all over it (Shalamar, Dynasty, Lakeside, Carrie Lucas.)
The entire album features that now classic Post-Disco sound (synths, Moogs, etc…) and is characteristic of a forgotten era in R&B of the early Eighties.
Solid 80s Soul/Funk!
“Give It Up” is far more consistent than most Funk albums of 1982 (George Clinton, Prince, etc.) with side A being classy all the way through.
Of course it doesn’t sound much like their releases from the mid-70s, but that’s quite obvious and fine with me!
Highlights: “What’s It Gonna Be” & “Sending My Love”
Other similar acts would include D-Train, Bar Kays, Cameo, the pre-Jam & Lewis S.O.S. Band (more so the third album, “S.O.S. III”)and Krystol instrumentally speaking.
If you enjoy deep, chugging basslines and a generous amount of Funk as well as soulful male-sung ballads in your R&B a la Zapp or Fatback.
