The once-dominant disco group Change enjoyed its final hit with this 1985 album.
The lineup had changed radically from the days when Luther Vandross or James Robinson were providing exciting, soulful leads.
The leads throughout this session, even on the lone successful single, "Let's Go Together," were more efficient than distinctive.
The group's founder, Jacques Fred Petrus, returned to the production helm and recycled the arrangements that once made the group a major act.
Change's TURN ON YOUR RADIO, released in 1985, was the band's 6th and final studio album and it's a mixed bag.
Having scored a major comeback hit the previous year with the brilliantly Jam & Lewis produced CHANGE OF HEART, it was somewhat of a surprise that J&L were not back to produce this effort.
Nonetheless, this is still a solid release. The overall feel of the album is sophisticated mid 80's R&B and a few dance songs. The musicianship and production is first rate but vocally this album is just competent.
The beauty of James Robinson's singing is sorely lacking here. The title track is formulaic and doesn't offer anything interesting. However, "Let's Get Together", "Oh What A Feeling", "You'll Always Be A Part Of Me" and "Mutual Attraction" are all pleasing, musically interesting classy mid-tempo numbers. "Examination" is a standout here, a sexy suggestive groove which makes you move.
"Love The Way You Love Me" and "If You Want My Love" are also pleasant 80's dance songs.
The band recorded the songs for album at Morning Studios, Milan, Italy. The sessions were then taken to Atlantic Recording Studios, New York City to be mixed.
Receiving negative reviews the album was originally released as an LP in April 1985. The album was released with two different artwork designs.
The UK version released on Cooltempo Records was designed by Greg Porto and the photography was by Robert Lewis.
