The Mark & Clark Band is an American band consisting of twin brothers Mark and Clark Seymour.
The identical twins Mark and Clark Seymour have been playing the piano since they were four years old.
When they were 16, their parents bought a second piano, and the twins decided to put the two musical instruments together. It was then that they became an act.
Their first album, Double Take on Columbia Records, went gold in five countries in Europe.
“Worn Down Piano” is a song, from the album “Double Take”. It is a 1977 composition by twins Mark and Clark Seymour, and released as a single. The song lasts 8 minutes and 10 seconds and had to be split over both sides of the single.
The song is about a worn out piano that has to be auctioned; nobody wants to buy that instrument though. That changes when a similarly worn-looking pianist plays the piano. The price rises and rises and the last bidder wants to hear the instrument one more time.
The pianist wants to buy the piano himself, but has no money for it, only a bottle of wine. All bidders decide that he should then get the piano.
However, the pianist has disappeared again and the piano remains behind for the next auction. The song is in a 6/8 time; the instrumental middle section is written in four-four time.
It is the only single from the Mark & Clark Band that has had some success in the Netherlands. The successor “When It Comes To Love” only made the National Hit Parade and the third single “Drinking Man’s Concerto” was not listed.
