Valérie Lagrange, born Danielle Charaudeau (Paris, February 25, 1942), is a French singer and actress.
She began writing and singing chansons in the late 1950s, but in 1968 she came under the influence of the hippie movement in France, which changed her musical style.
Valérie Lagrange's second self-titled studio album was released in 1980; her first, Moitié Ange-Moitié Bête, was produced in 1966.
"Protest Songs by Valérie Lagrange: I composed "Faut plus me la faire" in ten minutes in my dressing room.
It was the song that triggered the success of our first album on Virgin.
The music we were playing at the time had gradually become more electrified and hardened, moving more and more towards rock and politically charged lyrics.
All my dreams of a better world had vanished; I had a lot of anger inside me: it had to come out! It was often a bit primitive and Manichean, but it came straight from the heart. I didn't play with words, I didn't use irony, nor was it poetic."
There was an urgency in the lyrics, a way of expressing, of giving birth to all the suffering this revolting world caused me, a bit like American protest songs. They were "therapy songs," and they still are...
Oh, you who are listening to me or who aren't listening to me...
Life is suffering, who made it like this...
Moments when I wish I no longer existed...
But one thing is certain...
You can't do it to me anymore...
