Womack & Womack was the singing and songwriting partnership of married American musicians Linda Womack and Cecil Womack.
The duo were successful as songwriters for other artists and had several international hits as a singing duo in the 1980s and 1990s.
Later recordings with other members of their family were credited to The House of Zekkariyas.
Conscience is the fourth album by Womack & Womack, released in 1988. It contains the hit single "Teardrops".
The backing musicians were entitled the Mountain Man Band.
Womack & Womack's Conscience is an acclaimed 1988 album praised for its joyous and uplifting tracks like "Teardrops," its soulful vocals, outstanding musicianship with live instrumentation, and poetic lyrical depth on songs such as "On Slave (Just For Love)". Critics highlight the album's timeless quality, noting its excellent aging and enduring appeal to listeners who appreciate its mixture of upbeat and thoughtful songs.
Cecil and Linda Womack deliver versatile vocals, ranging from tender and thoughtful to joyous and uptempo.
The album features massive hits like "Teardrops" and the similar-sounding "Celebrate the World".
Strong Musicianship:
The album boasts outstanding musicianship with live drums, percussion, and bass, a rarity in the late 1980s, complemented by subtle synth.
Beyond the upbeat songs, tracks like "On Slave (Just For Love)" offer a brooding tone and a haunting chorus, while "I Am Love" presents a poetic exploration of romantic love.
Conscience is considered a timeless gem that has aged well, maintaining its quality and impact decades after its release.
Family Legacy:
The album showcases the family's legacy of soul music, with Cecil being the brother of Bobby Womack and Linda being the daughter of Sam Cooke.
