Inside You is the 20th album by the Isley Brothers, released on T-Neck Records on December 1, 1981.
Inside You (Part I & II) is a blunt copy of Marvin Gaye's only adventure in discoland, Got To Give lt Up. But since that song is smashing, Inside You (Part I & II) serves as an extension of that moment.
The record marks a return of the band to the string section. On First Love, there's even a horn section. They were obviously looking for a new sound, however, they abandoned the idea on their next recording.
Baby Hold On sounds like a Michael MacDonald song but apart from that, it's nothing to be ashamed of. Don't Hold Back Your Love (Part I & II) follows a series of those bedtime songs that the Isley Brothers were so good at. Welcome to My Heart seems to try to evoke the early seventies (with harpsichord sounds and full string arrangement).
Other than that, there isn't much to write home about. The Isley Brothers still wouldn't let go of their hilarious outfits, even though that kind of gear had fully fallen out of fashion by 1981. They were at the end of a fabulous phase in their ancient career. It began with their album, 3 + 3 from 1973.
With all due criticism from deeply dyed-in-the-wool Isley Brothers connoisseurs, Inside You has aged surprisingly well.
