Her 1973 song "Go Like Elijah" was a number one-hit in The Netherlands.
Chi Coltrane is a singer-songwriter and pianist from Wisconsin who was influenced by soul and gospel.
She wrote lyrics with personal and philosophical content.
Thunder and Lightning is a wild song about a tempestuous love affair.
It has a heavy orchestral arrangement.
You Were My Friend is a reproachful song about someone who betrayed her trust. Go Like Elijah expresses her wishful fantasy to die in a biblical and theatrical style. Her words gets responses by a gospel choir.
The Tree, a ballad with piano and strings, describes a spiritual connection to nature. Her voice is powerful and sensitive; her piano play adds drive to the melodies.
Chi Coltrane brings a perfect blend of 'White Soul', Gospel and Rock.
Carole King or Laura Nyro meets Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham.
Famous session musicians (Jim Gordon, Larry Knechtel, Lee Sklar...) help to make this a great album.
