Disco group popular from 1977 to 1980
Simon Soussan had prior experience with DISCO acts, having produced and developed SHALIMAR and PATTI BROOKS.
In the summer of 1977 he got vocalists Jason Reed, Jerry Scott, Fred Sawyers and Jessica Williams together and created ARPEGGIO.
Arpeggio's 1980 album Breakout is an "straight ahead Disco" album that is considered a "good disco collection" by some listeners.
While the album was released during the disco backlash and didn't achieve the same chart success as previous albums, it still has some "great moments to discover".
The album's commercial single "You Killed The Magic" was released in January 1980.
And so, after churning out 8 disco albums over a period of just two years, Simon Soussan too fell victim of the dreaded disco backlash in America and crashed and burned with his second Arpeggio album, lead by the Jessica Williams-Freddie Sawyers-Jerry Scott line-up.
Polydor shipped out 12" singles of Saturday Night/Breakout in December 1979 - Saturday Night being a cover of Bay City Rollers' No. 1 hit from 1975. It stalled at No. 46 at the Disco Charts where Soussan's albums had previously figured in the Top 20.
You Killed The Magic was the commercial single in January and seemed to be ominious title for the group themselves. Showdown was a second 12" single in May but fared even worse than the previous, going no further than No. 62.
Even so, Breakout has some great moments to discover. Simon Soussan's career in music pretty much fizzled after that.
