Stacy Lattisaw Jackson (née Lattisaw; born November 25, 1966) is an American R&B singer from Washington, D.C., United States.
The 1979 song "Ring My Bell" was originally written for then twelve-year-old Lattisaw, as a teenybopper song about kids talking on the telephone.
When Lattisaw signed with a different label, Anita Ward was asked to sing it instead, and it became Ward's only major hit.
Lattisaw recorded her first album for Cotillion Records at the age of 12 in 1979, under the direction of record producer Van McCoy.
However, it was not until she affiliated with Narada Michael Walden, a former drummer with the Mahavishnu Orchestra who was just beginning a career as a producer, that she found larger success. Under Walden's direction, she scored several R&B hit albums between 1981 and 1986.
“With You” is the third studio album by American singer Stacy Lattisaw. Released on June 22, 1981, by Cotillion Records, Lattisaw break-through single, a cover of the Moments’s hit “Love on a Two-Way Street”, peaked at number twenty-six on the U.S. pop chart and number two on the U.S. R&B chart in 1981.
The Washington, D.C. native found success on her third album with the classic “Love on a Two Way Street.” Released by the Moments 11 years prior (#1, 5 weeks), Lattisaw’s maturing vocals introduce her to an older audience.
Her effortless deliveries are commendable on this solid production. Her version held the number two position on the Billboard R&B charts for four consecutive weeks.
The second single was the mid-tempo “It Was So Easy.” Lattisaw’s vocals are supreme on this relaxing number.
The single peaked at 61. The third single was the more upbeat “Feel My Love Tonight.” Here too Lattisaw’s vocals ring with precsion.
With rap on the rise, the young vocalist ventures into the untamed territory of rap. While her enunication is articulate, the texture is painted with a juvenile sound. The titlle track is a mellow, soft number allowing Lattisaw to expand her vocality.
This album was also a platform for some of Narada Michael Walden’s earlier production work.
